ACAP Testing

Hello I3 families,

We are entering into a three-week testing period when the ACAP assessment will be administered in grades 2nd through 5th. The Alabama ACAP Summative Assessment is a comprehensive program designed to provide information about what students know in core academic areas. This test replaces the Scantron, ACT Aspire, and ARMT exams and is a part of the Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP). Subjects tested include English language arts (ELA), mathematics, and science.

This test captures a small portion of your child’s overall academic performance and understanding of the subjects at hand. At the same time, it is very important when identifying gaps in your child’s learning and targeting instruction for the following year. Our school’s overall performance on the ACAP is a component of our charter contract, and it is how we are held accountable by the Alabama Charter School Commission.

At home, you can help your child prepare for the test in a few ways:

  • Talk to your child about taking tests. Offer advice and tips that worked for you.

  • Make sure that your child gets plenty of rest during testing week.

  • Make sure that your child eats before testing. We will offer breakfast as usual each morning.

  • Stay positive about testing and encourage your child to do his/her best each day of testing.

  • Ensure your child arrives at school on time on the day of the test.

We are offering two ACAP Prep Rallies ahead of testing. These will boost your child’s confidence and offer another chance to go over key elements of the test.  These will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the next two Saturdays. Drop off begins at 8:30 a.m. and pickup ends at 12:30 p.m. Please arrive on time. Your child needs to bring his/her iPad and headphones. Uniforms are not required, but students must be dressed appropriately. Lunch will be provided. Please contact your child’s teacher directly about this event.

The dates for each grade level are:

  • Saturday, April 10th: 4th Grade

  • Saturday, April 17th: 2nd and 3rd Grade

The test will be administered on the dates below. Hybrid students need to attend school on campus on the days their grade level tests will be administered. Remote students need to plan to be on campus for testing for a full school day (8 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
